Protestors Rage After Iranian Government Rigs Election

It was an impressive event when Hezbollah was voted out of power in Lebanon, no longer able to push an anti-American agenda. I admit, I had high hopes about the upcoming Iranian Presidential elections, mainly because of all the dirty pool politics Ahmadinejad was playing. Why would he have to pay all these dirty politics if the election was fixed? Therefore, it must be an open election. Well, once again, my idealism gets the best of me. So the government rigged the election and had Ahmadinejad win by a large margin. It's highly doubtful that this was an on-the-level competition, but I guess that's to be expected. So now what is to be done?

It seems pretty obvious that the Iranian people know they were duped, and they have taken to the streets this weekend in protest. Most of the protests were peaceful, if not silent. A few have escalated to the point where the "peace-keeping" forces bludgeon the shit out of protesters. But the thing truly remarkable is that these photos and reports are able to get out of Iran. If this happened in, oh I don't know, China, we wouldn't have heard of it. I'm not sure why the Iranian government let this happen. They cut off international calling. They cut off text messaging. They limited so much communications in Tehran. They obviously wanted to cover this up, but they are failing so miserably at it. So this means one of two things: They want to leak this stuff out (unlikely), or they are unable to stop the flood because they are losing control of their people.

Either way, it's exciting to see people striving to be free of tyranny.
